Lost ships and other oddities in Anza Borrego

The run out to Borrego last week with Ollie, John and part way with Dave, was the kick start to a photo essay/book project that I've had in my head for awhile.

This morning I was doing a little research of some of the more obscure history/legends of Anza Borrego. Along with the lost Spanish galleon full of pearls, legend speaks of a lost Viking ship near Agua Caliente in Tierra Blanco Canyon. Supposedly a couple from Julian had found in the early 1930's as it was apparently sticking out of the mountain. An earthquake then covered it and it hasn't been seen since.

What I'd like to do is plan some day trips into, and around, the park and start exploring a few of these tales. I'm going to start some more involved research of the legends and maps to try and figure out what can be covered in a reasonable amount of time. I'd like to try and make at least one excursion a month. Maybe 2 depending on my work schedule.

Considering where we were last week, a lot of these areas are very remote so I'm hoping that some of you will want to tag along. For the project I have in my head, the vehicles play a very central role.

If you have ideas on locations or routes, please let me know. I'd like to gather as much information and local knowledge as possible.

Well, as of yesterday, I'm kinda sorta on a permanent vacation which means I have some time over the next few weeks to make some runs out into the park. I'd like to make the lost ship loop, head up to the Rock House ruins and maybe a few other things. I'm going to check some maps and books later today. Anyone have time to make a run or two over the next few weeks?

I wish. Last year was insane and I spent more time on an airplane, just over 90k miles, than I did at home. Still would love to do this but not sure when. We're only a couple of weeks into the year and my travel schedule is already beyond insane.

I badly need to get back out there.
