I am looking at putting a 10m / CB set up in my truck. I am hoping to order tonight, and I think I have a set up, but want to make sure.
I have a 2006 power wagon with a moon roof and a tonneu cover, so it kills mounts in the roof or bed rails. i dont like the looks of the fender mount so I was thinking of using this mount

antenna http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-fl3b- ... p-897.html I would like to have bigger, but with the mount already being up so high, I will already be getting into clearance problems, so I am hoping this is a good option
comes out to 295 plus the mount
Does this seem like a decent set up?
any suggestions, or things I missed?
The main thing I am looking for is trail use, I have a few trail buddy's that are running president hr2510 radios, and that is what I started looking for when I found the Magnum.
Thanks
Cris

Re: 10m/cb about to order need advice
Are you interested in CB or 10m ham? Both the Magnum 257 and the President HR2510 operate in the ham radio bands not CB. Sounds like you just want a basic CB, but all your friends are running 10m.
As I understand you can modify some 10m radios to operate in the CB frequencies, but AFAIK it is illegal. Also CBs are limited to 4W output power so you would exceed that with this radio.
The firestick will probably work with that radio, not sure. I use the Larsen NMO27C with my CB with good results.

I think we need more clarity in what you are striving for here Chris. If you want CB (11-Meters) in your truck then I would go with a Cobra or Uniden CB. Because of the size of your truck you could easily install I top end CB in your rig. Firestik and Firefly are always a good bet for antennas, however, as Eric mentioned, there are certainly other wire-type (whip) antennas that will do the job. You might even consider a whip off of your rear bumper.

Re: 10m/cb about to order need advice
Both of the radios, (president that friends use and the Magnum i am looking at) will do both 10m and cb. The president requires a modification (chip switch). I am trying to cover both bands with one set up so I can still have room for a 2m/70cm radio, and my police scanners (for work). The couple of guys I go with most often are all running the president, using mainly the 10m band, so that is mainly what I plan on using it for, but would like to have the ability to go to cb if I need to. I thought about doing a whip off of the bumper, but I know that effects the pattern and efficiency of the antenna so I wanted to get it to a more central location, like the cab. The cab is already over 80inches tall, and I have rubbed it through trees, so I am trying to go with a shorter antenna that I can leave on the truck most of the time. It would be nice to throw a 102inch whip on there, but I think 15feet is pushing the altitude a bit.
I have a trip coming up in a little over 2 weeks, so I want to try and get everything ordered up so i can get it in and tested before we leave.
Thanks for the help
