I can't seem to find the recent thread about the hiker who died of heat exhaustion and the trail was subsequently closed. Did someone delete it?
Another case of ignorance: http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/20/3- ... esses-say/
Should the park close the trail?
Deleted thread?

Re: Deleted thread?
THese three deaths are tragic but it is just another case of people not being aware of their environment and its dangers. They passed beyond the boundaries that were put in place by the park and as the ranger says in the article, that is on them. Anyone wishing to get a closer look at the beautiful falls or rushing water is welcome to but it is on them when they cross the safety threshold.

Agreed and exactly my point Ollie. It's on them and other hikers should not be penalized by closing a trail or a park because of another persons lack common sense. I feel for the family of these hikers, it's a terrible tragedy. It sounds like the classic situation where one slips in and the other panic and fall in trying to save one another.OLLIE wrote:THese three deaths are tragic but it is just another case of people not being aware of their environment and its dangers. Re: Deleted thread?
I don't agree with shutting down Cedar Creek (other story you were looking for) but understand why they did especially during the Summer months. Because of all the injuries in such a brief amount of time. The strain on resources probably became too much. The only real means of rescue in that area is air rescue. Can you imagine the aircrews comments when they get the call to go back to the same spot three times in one day. Now those resources can't effectively patrol their designated areas.
