Hi from Spring Valley

Post by gzeleniak » Sat Jul 30, 2011 9:41 am

I joined the site just before summerfest, and attended the summerfest field day event. Unfortunately, I was quite under the weather with a cold so I did not get to participate much, but I did enjoy the weekend and was very impressed with the group's radio set ups and off road rigs. I drove my sport trac to summerfest, but my off road rig is a 1987 Bronco II. I was doing some work on it and it was not available for that weekend. My Bronco II is a one owner vehicle with about 300,000 miles put on it by me, so I have been activly offroading for a number of years.

I recently got started in Ham Radio and my call sign is KJ6NJL. Currently I have only worked VHF/UHF, but am beginning to look for an HF rig. One thing I was able to do at summerfest was complete the testing for a volunteer examiners credential. I sent off the test and application the week I got home, and received my badge yesterday in the mail, so now I am an official "Extra Class Volunteer Examiner". If you need some help on the 20TH, let me know, I am planning on attending the meeting in San Diego this month.

I have enjoyed listening to the Thursday night nets, and when the Palomar repeater link is working, I always check in. Hope to see some of you on the trails

Greg

Glad to see you are feeling better, and have been listening to the nets...and congrats on obtaining your volunteer examiner credentials. I added you to the official OAUSA Amateur Radio Operator Roster.

I would pm Ollie (OLLIE) regarding your assistance for the meet and greet on August 20th; I'll be out of town, so I'm not sure if there will be enough VEs for the testing session or not (I think so, but it never hurts to have reserves). There will likely be HF set-ups on display there as well, so you might have the opportunity to try out HF at the same time ;)

Greg:

Welcome. We may need some help at the SD M&G and we will let you know. Thanks for the offer!

The Palomar repeater is working out well and we hope to have another repeater in SD soon. Glad you can join us.

Welcome aboard! What repeaters do you use around town? I can usually be found on Otay, and I keep the all-call on too. Keep and ear out for me if your on either frequency. Or just give me a shout if see KJ6HEJ on the back of a silver FJ.
Cheers
