Mt. Baldy (AKA Mt. San Antonio) August 13th

Post by gon2srf » Wed Aug 10, 2011 1:09 pm

I'm heading up to Mt. Baldy again this Saturday. I got a wakeup call last Sunday when I loaded my new pack with 40lbs. of gear and met Brad and friends from IH8MUD at Manker Flats. Beware of hiking with BPenn (Brad) he is 6' 4" to 6' 6" something and he and his friends can motor. My legs were burning before we hit the first switchback and that was that. They went a head and I huffed and and puffed till 8200' where I turned around defeated. I got in over 2300ft of elevation in 2 miles and a solid workout but still feeling like a loser I drove up the road to the Baldy parking lot, took the ski lift up where I hiked another mile of Devil's Backbone. Beautiful day!

Saturday will be the same trail but I'll be sporting 30lbs. less gear so I hope to be moving a bit faster. If your interested shoot me a PM, I will be at Manker Flats by 6:30am and on the trail by 6:45am.

Sounds like a great hike, Scott. Don't let not finishing a climb get you down. Sometimes you just gotta listen to your body. I don't consider myself a fast hiker at all. On some climbs I rely on just sheer will to get me to the top.

Have fun out there!

Obvious by the fact you did Tahquitz with ragged feet! Have fun this weekend.
