2011-08-20 & 21 San Jacinto Backpack Trip Report

Post by OLLIE » Sun Aug 21, 2011 11:47 pm

As Scott mentioned several times during the trip, this will be one of those weekends that we will remember for the rest of our lives. The weather was perfect, the views amazing, and the camp site never fails to impress. Here are some pictures from our trip. The colors up there were amazing. There were seas of green on the mountain side. We ended up summiting on Saturday instead of Sunday which made for an awesome day of exploring on Sunday. There will be more pics to come. All of these pics were from Saturday.

Hey Ollie thanks for posting up the pics and TR so soon. The views of the skylines, mountain ranges, meadows and forests were up there with Yosemite and Yellowstone trips. Laying in my bag on a mattress of pine needles with a view of the coastline and valley below, not a sound but the whistling of the wind through the pines, it's hard to describe that kind of beauty and solitude. Good times for sure!

Ollie:

What a great trip. Your hiking adventures have added a whole new dimension to the site.

The views are spectacular and it's a view that very few people can say that they have experienced.

On day 2 we explored the ridge line where we were camping on the north rim of the amphitheater. After doing some exploring and seeing some really cool stuff we headed back to camp to grab our already packed backpacks to head down the mountain. On the way down we saw more beautiful views and ran into something I'd heard existed in those mountains but never saw before, a rattlesnake. This particular snake was rather large and it was black. I'd never seen a black rattlesnake before. I got as good of a pic as I could from a distance and through the tall grass.

I still say "Epic".

The pics are incredible Ollie, good enough that they almost do the scenery justice and that is saying alot!

This particular pic says it all. Woohoo, yeah man!!!
