In case you haven't seen it, check out the Tread Lightly! auction. This is a creative way to show your support and get some cool gear:

Speaking of Tread Lightly!

On the ExpeditionExchange.com board someone asked about how to get Tread Lightly! as one of the special interest plates. Does anyone know how to add a special interest plate to the list?

Yes - speaking of Tread Lightly!
I would be happy to arrange a Tread Lightly Tread Trainer Session if we have enough interest.

Upon successful completion of this course, each participant will become a Tread Lightly! Tread Trainer and receive a completion certification and become eligible for benefits provided through the Tread Trainer program.

Those who complete the Trainer course are equipped to:
  • Identify possible environmental and social impacts resulting from irresponsible recreation on land and water
Be able to describe the five Tread Lightly! minimum impact principles and how they can be applied to motorized recreation. (ATVs, 4WD, Dirt Bikes, water recreation, Snowmobiling), mechanized recreation (mountain bikes), camping, horseback riding and hunting.
Understand and demonstrate and teach Tread Lightly! minimum impact principles.
Lead a discussion on outdoor ethics and help others explore their own personal outdoor ethic.
Each attendee will receive educational materials including a Trainer Manual, Tread Lightly! Guide to Responsible Use, Tread Lightly! Education Curriculums, and Tread Trainer Power Point.

Participates in the Tread Trainer program are eligible for a number of benefits including:
  • Membership in the Tread Lightly! organization.
    Certificate of training completion.
Expertise in Tread Lightly! ethics and ways to minimize outdoor impacts when recreating.
10% discount on all Tread lightly! materials.
Resources and information to assist in presentations.
Use of the Tread Lightly! display upon request.
Updates through a semi-annual newsletter, emails and website.
As a Tread Trainer you will be responsible to present the Tread Lightly! message to interested groups; Act as a Tread Lightly! volunteer representative for your area/ region; and report to the Tread lightly! organization on presentations held in two years from initial involvement.

The cost is minimal and is only for the materials. No more then $25 and we can cut that a bit if we find someone to donate the printing, conference room, lunch, etc.

This is an 8 hour class ( requirement of Tread Lightly) and you do not need a 4WD vehicle. In order to make it worthwile and FUN, we need at least 10 or more people who want to go thru the training. BTW - there are no spectators at this class. If you show up you go thru the training.

Oh - and you get me as your Master Tread Lightly Trainer at no cost!

(ps - if this is in the wrong spot in the forum - would someone move it please.)
See you on the Trail!

This will be a real class room or conference room type. If available, some parts could be outside on the grass but we will not be driving our vehicles.

I know you understand and didn't bring it up but this is an excellent place to repeat that this class is not about how to use the specific recreational vehicle (bike, horse, 4WD, PWC, etc.), it is about an outdoor ethic and priniciples of tread lightly!

I am open to when and where. I would like to hold it in an area that is convenient for the majority of those interested and where we have offers for use of a conference room. The timing will depend on having enough people express interest - at lease 10. Is a Saturday or Sunday the best day for everyone? How about a Friday?
See you on the Trail!
