North County Fire

Post by BorregoWrangler » Fri Aug 10, 2012 7:13 pm

Looks like this thing is burning north of Warner Springs, near Palomar Mountain. Hope folks are staying safe out there.
Homes were being threatened but none was reported damaged as of Friday morning. The fire is called the Chihuahua Fire and was sparked by lightning off Chihuahua Valley Road around 1 p.m. Thursday, according to Cal Fire, which reported that the blaze was 10 percent containment as of 2 p.m.
Voluntary evacuation advisories went out around 7:30 p.m. Thursday for residents in the immediate area, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Mohler said. Overnight, those advisories were bumped up to "mandatory" evacuation orders, although such orders cannot be legally enforced in California.
The American Red Cross opened up a shelter at Warner Springs High School on state Route 79. Early Friday, Cal Fire reported that there had been no injuries or property damage because of the Chihuahua Fire.
A total of 15 fire engines, 12 fire crews, three air tankers, six helicopters, three bulldozers and four water tenders were assigned to the incident, but additional strike teams of engines, fire crews and bulldozers were ordered for today, according to Cal Fire.
One firefighter was being treated for a heat related injury but no other injuries reported as a result of the fire.
