General 2013 Borrego Fest Discussion

I know it's early, but there is a significant fire happening right now that could have an effect on this years event. This incident is being referred to as the "Chariot Fire", apparently as it started in the southern end of Chariot Canyon. Currently, it has burned about 3000 acres and is only 15% contained. At the moment, it is just west of our campground, but spreading. The fire is less than 4 miles from the Rodriguez/Chariot/Oriflamme triangle of canyons and less than 2 miles from the campsite.

Oh my - hadn't heard about this fire Dave. Hope for the best with the firefighters!

At least I'll be back up on my feet and ready for camping again by October. Going the Big Dave route with knee replacment July 16.

I hope the weather starts to cooperate so the firefighters can get a handle on it soon...

UPDATE 7/10/13

Things are improving, but the damage is considerable. Acres burned is 7,055 and containment is at 65%. Over 120 cabins and other structures were destroyed.

The fire didn't affect our campsite or the canyons where all the mines are located, but it got really close.

Yeah, unfortunately some nice hiking trails and peaks that I've been wanting to explore have been burnt through. But I guess everything there will eventually come back again.

I drove down to Butterfield yesterday. The closest the fire got to the campground was about a half mile. No damage. No harm. We should be good for Borregofest. Not even close to the mine tour area, although there have been several fires in the Rodriguez Canyon / Granite Mtn area. Should be all good.
