This week the net will be on the destination, Kings Canyon. We have done this trip in the past, but it continues to draw us back due to the incredible scenery, the immense size of the area, and the relatively easy access. Perhaps the most appealing thing about this High Sierra forest is its remoteness and solitude. Check this link for a previous trip report: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=2932.
The net will be a first for us as we will be doing it right from camp. As you might expect, at 8000+ feet elevation, these mountains are a perfect location for antennas, both commercial and private. We are very fortunate to have discovered a private IRLP node within easy range of our camp, which will allow us to connect to our usual repeaters, via the wizardry of the internet. All 7 members of the Kings Canyon group will be speakers for the net.
Here are a few shots of the area.

Re: OAUSA Net - September 26, 2013 - Destination: Kings Canyon
I'm looking forward to this trip, and to contributing to the net from this amazing location in the High Sierras.
I'll be discussing the preparation I do, and the additional equipment I bring with me for a trip of this type - a few days in a remote location, with restricted access to outside assistance - in order to help reduce the chances of my vehicle being stranded in the wilderness. This will include pre-trip maintenance, spare parts / tools, solar / generator power, communications equipment, etc...and probably tie in to other discussions we'll have of camping equipment, ham radio in the wilderness, etc., that we use for these excursions.
