2008-07-14 thru 24: FJ-Summit, Kokopelli, and Moab Trek

Post by OLLIE » Sat Jul 12, 2008 12:01 pm

A few of us are taking about a week and a half trip to Colorado and Utah.Last year they started an annual FJ-Summit in Ouray, CO. The event this year runs from July 16th through the morning of July 20th. Each day they host various trail runs in the Ouray / Telluride area. Then each night there is an activity hosted at Summit Central (the Best Western Hotel in Ouray) the includes bands, barbeques and a raffle. On the morning of the 20th a group of us are heading to Grand Junction where we start the Kokopelli Trail. The Kokopelli Trail is 148 miles of trail that runs from Grand Junction, CO to Moab, UT. It should take between 2 and 3 days depending on whether we can make one of the river crossings or not. We may hit a trail in Moab then come home, intending to be back around the 24th or 25th.

I have a SPOT Personal Tracling Device. I will activate it when I depart Monday night. You should be able to track our progress by clicking on the link below. Providing I have cell phone reception, I will post up a report each night.

Hey Ollie, I'll give all you FJ guys a call on the Summit Repeaters (Silverton) when I get into Ouray on Saturday. Staying at the Alpenglow #5 (2nd/5th). Maybe find a beer. Our own Touareg Rally officially starts July 21-25, but most if not all will be in town by Sunday afternoon for our own group get-togethers.

The Kokopelli sounds like a cool trail - I have seen references to that or a bike trail that begins around Telluride and runs to Moab. Going through the La Sals?

Have a safe and rockin trip!

Maybe we can make an article out of his trip. Kind of like a travel log.

I think that would be great.

We should try to write up any and all adventures members are involved in, either individually or as a group, sort of like our own in-house Overland Journal. This was a big draw at ADV4X4, and on the Blue Forum (fjcruiserforums.com for those who aren't sure what we are referring to...), and I'm sure it would be enjoyed by the members here, too.
