OAUSA Net - November 20, 2014 - Firearms Legal Update
In the last few years, and in particular, in the last week, there have been some significant legal landmark cases which will have a direct impact on the rights of gun owners all over the USA, and especially, here in the West. We will also briefly discuss legislative updates for the firearm unfriendly state of California.
The three most significant cases that we will discuss, among others, will be:
1. District of Columbia v Heller
2. McDonald v City of Chicago, Illinois
3. Peruta v. County of San Diego
To the extent that we are asked to discuss legislative updates in California, we will briefly do so. For those with a wish for complete details on these cases, I have provided PDFs for each decision, below. The decisions are lengthy, but very informative, and each case deserves to be read, more than once. If you find that your constitution will only allow you to read one decision, I strongly recommend Heller. In Heller, there is a very thorough and complete Second Amendment historical review by the Supreme Court which served as a basis for their decision. Their analysis of the Second Amendment is something which, as an American, you need to know. And, incidentally, it is information that is valuable when you find the discussion turning to the Second Amendment or firearms in general. A great way to "arm" yourself (with facts), so to speak.
