OAUSA Net - February 16, 2017 - Vehicle Maintence
Driving season, or at least that season where driving will hit a peak, will be arriving soon. Keeping your 4 wheel drive or trail vehicle in good running condition is a great way to avoid trouble. Our discussion on vehicle maintenance will be led by Larry Bernstein, W6LPB. The depth of Larry's expertise is significant, and for those interested in some excellent tips and advice, this is a net that shouldn't be missed.

Re: OAUSA Net - February 16, 2017 - Vehicle Maintence
Simple truth - mechanical devices require regular maintenance to keep them in top operating condition. Off-road enthusiasts spent a lot of time using their equipment and vehicles in extreme environments, and under extremely stressful conditions - reasons that make careful inspection and thorough maintenance even more critical to a safe journey and a more relaxing, less expensive expedition.
That said, even the best maintained vehicles can have component failures at inopportune times on the trails, so a basic knowledge of major automotive systems, and components, as well as a selection of repair parts on board can help to make any trip safer and more successful.
Below are a few of the many field repair scenarios I've been involved wit over the years; broken rear differential (Death Valley), Broken CV axle (High Sierras), broken steering linkage (Calico Mountains), Tire repair (East Mojave Desert)
