Saturday Evening Dutch Oven Cook-Off and Pre-Dinner Activities
Saturday Evening Dutch Oven Cook-Off and Pre-Dinner Activities
One of the highlights of Borrego Fest has been the Saturday Dutch Oven cook-off dinner. Our chefs are "well seasoned" Dutch Oven experts, and while we don't necessarily declare a winning chef, the winners are always those who get to enjoy some excellent outdoor cuisine. This well attended affair has always impressed, and this year should be no exception. If you have a special Dutch Oven recipe, we invite you to join the others at the chef's table. We are asking for the cooperation of everyone attending to help make this dinner a success.
But, if you're not a Dutch Oven cook, you can still contribute as there is always a need for beverages, paper goods, deserts, firewood, etc. We have a list below for everyone to volunteer.
In addition to the Dutch Oven dinner, our official wine tasting has become a popular part of the Saturday night festivities. Our wine expert will be supplying a number of wines for everyone (over 21) to taste. So, make sure to bring a good wine GLASS and a willingness to taste some fine vintages. Kevin, Jack, TomS, DaveK and others will have several appetizers to go along with the wine tasting. If you would like to make a contribution, let us know.
Due to the enormous success of the way we held the Dutch Oven cook-off last year, we will be following that model again this year. Specifically, the appetizer and the official wine tasting, as well as dinner, will take place at the campsite and will be essentially one affair. For those who will be preparing a dish for dinner, we will plan on starting the appetizer/wine tasting around 4:00PM and the dinner, around 6:30 (maybe 7:00PM).

Dutch oven something - poppy seed chicken for Tom if there's still popular demand as I've done that dish several times now.

Maria and I plan to make one dessert and one main dish. At the moment, we're thinking a coconut cake and a savory beef. We've got an experiment or two planned, and may change our ideas based on the results.

I'm planning to do BBQ chicken with a sous vide prep.
I'll also plan to bring an assortment of varietal wines for an impromptu wine tasting for those that are interested.

IMPORTANT REQUEST
The Dutch Oven Potluck looks like it is going to be huge. For those who can, we will need tables for dinner seating. and probably for your group meal seating. AND, be sure and bring your chairs.
