Big Bear Pinzgauer Run 11/23
Big Bear Pinzgauer Run 11/23
Some Southern California Pinzgauer owners are getting together for a run in Big Bear on Sunday (11/23). We will be meeting at 10:00AM in the Big Bear Discover Center parking lot. Anyone from the group is welcome to tag along if you want to watch some of these vehicles in action. There should be a mix of 710 4x4s and at least one 712 6x6.

Re: Big Bear Pinzgauer Run 11/23
Bruce,
Can't make it - saw the post too late and I just got back from Pismo yesterday. But I would like to take a ride some time if you promise to keep the back wheels on the ground! Have a good trip.

Re: Big Bear Pinzgauer Run 11/23
Tom,
I can't promise that I'll keep all the wheels on the ground at all times but I can minimize lifting both wheels on the same axle
.
We ended up running Gold Mountain and then touring around Holcomb Valley. There were 2 Pinzgauer 710s, a Pinzgauer 712 (6x6), and a Volvo C303. We would have had a Pinzgauer 716 4x4 turbo diesel but it blew a radiator hose on the way up route 18.
At one point the guy driving the 712 missed his line and the right front wheel dropped into a hole raising both left rear wheels about 18" off the trail. That made for a good thrill ride for the 4 passengers in the back.
It's too bad I wasn't able to get a picture of it.
We had a family from Kansas who have a Pinzgauer 712 back home riding along as guests. They were duly impressed with wheeling in California. Sometimes it's easy to forget how lucky we are to have such a wide variety of recreational wheeling terrain relatively near by.
