Nice pix, here and on the blue forum.
I'm going to have to get out there someday. I've been wanting to wait until I get air suspension lift, but that looks way tempting.
How is the traction of "little Moab" versus the real slickrock in Sand Flats?

I highly discourage you to run it without the lift. Any ground clearance you think you have gets swallowed up pretty quickly with the ruts.
We just call it little moab, but in reality it's just a bunch of granite rock face.

Re: 2008-8-03 Otay and Carveacre run
I'll get 13-14" pure clearance on 112" wheelbase with the air and BFG's, add two lockers when a switch rigs next year. Based on the photos and your thoughts, my current 9.5" clear is likely too close without punching more rocker panel. I did Gold Mtn last year, Potato Ridge this year - and in both cases that extra few inches would be a world of help. Had no trouble on Hells Revenge tho. So next year I'll want to go out there and explore the SD trails with a smaller group just to think a line through. That will be fun.I highly discourage you to run it without the lift. Tenuous traction on the steep then.... sounds like fun!!We just call it little moab, but in reality it's just a bunch of granite rock face.
Again great pix - and great to see a flurry of trip reports and trip planning. Starting to feel like home.

I would love to see a Toureg run this trail.Arkarch wrote:I'll get 13-14" pure clearance on 112" wheelbase with the air and BFG's, add two lockers when a switch rigs next year. Like sdnative said though, clearance would be a huge issue. Even with our rigs there are situations out there that put a tire 3-4 feet off the ground and ruts we have to straddle that if we slid in would swallow our trucks and need winching/snatching to get out.
My passenger seat is open to you anytime if you want a tour of any of the trails down here prior to trying your rig out on it.

Re: 2008-8-03 Otay and Carveacre run
No sweat. I have gotten so used to one wheel up that several of us Touareg guys make it a sport. Its even more fun balanced diagonally on two! IFS = FUN.Even with our rigs there are situations out there that put a tire 3-4 feet off the ground
And if something falls in - we do have tow hook points. Not obvious - look for the four hidden bumper screw panels two the front and two on the aft. Already been tow-strapped out of trouble once this year.
Thanks sdnative and Ollie.
Back to the show.
