You can pick up one of several good study guides from any of the amateur radio stores, such as Jun's Electronics (http://www.hamcity.com) or Ham Radio Outlet (http://www.hamradio.com), as well as from the American Radio Relay League (http://www.arrl.org). There are also many sights on line that provide free practice testing, although I don't think they have explanations for the questions or comments to help you learn the material. Search elsewhere on this forum for more specific info...
Good luck...

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
One method of studying for the tests is to skim a couple of ham license books and then take practice tests until you get a score consistently over 85 or 90%. Then you're ready for the test. This worked well for me.
Here are a couple of web sites I found with practice texts:

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
The time for the test session at the Bass Pro Shop will be from 10:00AM until Noon. Anyone interested in testing for their ham radio license can show up at the Bass Pro Shop meeting room on April 25th between those hours. The cut off for showing up for the testing will be at noon so as long as you get there by noon you can take the test.
This will be an ARRL sanctioned test session. A $15 testing fee will be collected at the time of the test.
Please reply to this thread or send me a private message if you are planning on testing. Registration for the test is not required and walk-ins are welcome but I need to get an idea of how many people will be showing up so we can be sure to have enough Volunteer Examiners (VEs) to grade the tests and process the paperwork.

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
I plan on attending and intend to test for my General. If everything goes rght maybe I'll try for General and Extra.
Not A Mog,
Might be a good idea to post up what will be required for the people taking the tests to come prepared with. I'm thinking FRN number and the appropriate docs, unless you plan on filling out docs there.

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
Here is what folks who are planning on testing for their license need to bring -
1. $15 or a check made out to "ARRL-VEC"
2. If you are upgrading bring a copy of your license which will be submitted along with your payment and test results to the ARRL VEC (Volunteer Examiner Coordinator)
3. You may also want to bring a pen and a pencil just in case a lot of people show up and they run short.

-Do you require we file for our FRN number before we show up or will there be a means to apply for it there?

Re: Ham Radio Test Session at Bass Pro Shop
According to our VEs it isn't necessary to apply for a FCC Registration Number (FRN) in advance if you are applying for an initial license or if you received your latest license before the FRN system was started. The only catch is that you must be willing to use your social security number on the forms in lieu of the FRN. An FRN will be automatically assigned with your new license if you do not have one.
If you received a license since the FRN system was started then your FRN will appear on your license.
If you are unwilling to supply your SSN on the FCC paperwork then you will need an FRN before you come to the test session. You may apply for an FRN at the following URL
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do
I don't know how long this process currently takes.
I hope this answers your question.

Takes all of 5 minutes after you hit submit on the application. You hit submit and your FRN is issued.NotAMog wrote:Accor
