California's Lost Coast

A few years ago, the wife and I took a trip to Tahoe. We hit parts of the Rubicon and trails around Bishop. On the way back we explored the Lost Coast of Ca. I don't remember how we came across it, but it was quite spooky to say the least. It was easy to get lost on all the dark, overgrown, dirt and mud trails. We came across trails which led to someones property or homestead or their permanent site -- many with big no trespassing signs. I felt like I was in deliverance country.

We did make it to the coast and it was incredible. Pristine to say the least and no one in sight. Found the rangers house, which was part of a ranch years ago. If you get a chance, give it a lookover. I didn't even know it existed.

Can you find this on a map and show it to us? Looks awesome.

It is in northern Cal. It is where the 1 merges with the 101, because the terrain was too rugged to continue the 1. I will get info.

Incedible beauty and desolation. I visited this area 20 years ago as I was exploring and surfing my way up to Oregon. It's amazing to see this much coastal wilderness in California. When you open the map, checkout the inset on the left. It gives you a better feel of the location

Nice map. I remember we went through Garberville. They had numerous head shops. The wife and I thought we had entered a movie set from the 60's. All the long hair, sandles tydyed shirts etc. What a sight to see. Even saw a bunch of old buses painted and vw vans from the 60's. A place where time stood still. Very Groovy

I drove a VW Westphalia, guess I fit right in back then.

There is a whole lotta pot being grown in this part of the country, very groovy indeed.
