I have a Comet SBB5 that is the same, lift a little and fold. It does hit the trees from time to time when I forget to fold it and makes an unhappy bang when I pull into the garage with it up!sdnative wrote:This antenna folds down. No collar, just lift the antenna and fold. They are very rigid however and will not flex. You will most likely damage either the antenna or the mount if you smack them on a tree, parking garage, etc...
So, I have a SBB1. It is about 16” long, fine for simplex between rigs on the trail and in Orange County I can still use the same more or less local repeaters. It is flexible and just bends out of the way.
The SBB5 will be on for most off road stuff, especially in the desert where folks can get a little split up. But the SBB1 is on the rest of the time now.
