I have a Comet SBB5 that is the same, lift a little and fold. It does hit the trees from time to time when I forget to fold it and makes an unhappy bang when I pull into the garage with it up!

So, I have a SBB1. It is about 16” long, fine for simplex between rigs on the trail and in Orange County I can still use the same more or less local repeaters. It is flexible and just bends out of the way.

The SBB5 will be on for most off road stuff, especially in the desert where folks can get a little split up. But the SBB1 is on the rest of the time now.

I have the same mount on my 4runner along with the diamond NR770HB antenna.

The antenna is rather stiff, but it held up well against the trees on the last trip. The NR770 also folds over for when I have to park in a garage. All you do is lift up on the antenna and fold it over 90*. I one time pulled into my garage and forgot to fold the antenna over, the antenna didn't get permanently bent, but it did bend until I pulled it up and laid it down in the folded position. And for long term, the antenna just unscrews from the mount.

Is that also the same antenna setup they installed on Abu's Runner when you seen it at Dirty Parts?

Yep, I think it was the same antenna.

If you have an open coil on the spring like a SBB-5 be careful the open spring can catch on a tree branch and pluck your antenna right off the truck.

I know it has happened to me more than once  . I always keep a spare antenna and a mag mount base inside the truck just in case.

I recently bought one from MFJ with a knob foldover, but I am disappointed in the quality. The detent has too much slop, so the antenna wobbles a bit. You should be able to find something similar from another manufacturer.
