Wildflower Triathlon - Back from the Dead

Post by BruisedFJ » Mon Apr 11, 2011 2:29 pm

Hi All,
Long time no hear - sorry for my long absence. Now that I am rearing my ugly head, thought I'd catch you up on what I've been up to and see what y'all have in store for the Summer. The FJ is in need of a workout.

But first, some of you met my dear lady Pamela. Well, after my Mother passed away last Summer from pancreatic cancer, I needed an outlet in a big way. Pamela convinced me that she and I should help raise funds to fight cancer and run a half ironman triathlon. What?! Yes, a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run on one of the toughest courses in the world - Wildflower. http://www.tricalifornia.com/index.cfm/ ... 1-main.htm

Why this? Well, her marathon experience taught her that she is no sprinter, but can do long, slow distance like nobody's business. And I needed a challenge significant enough to keep me from wanting to break things. So that's where I've been, training 6 days a week since November after never doing a swim workout in my life, and I certainly didn't run. This pic from last Saturday should convince you that I don't like running: http://kenshin.smugmug.com/Ironteam2011 ... 9448_7NVHy

So after my event on April 30, I'll be ready to come play in the FJ. I'm looking forward to catching up with y'all, and I hope you and yours have been happy and healthy. I'll watch the event pages to see when I'll be able to join you on the trail.

PS - if you have or had a family member challenged with cancer, and want to make a contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, just follow this link. http://pages.teamintraining.org/los/wildtri11/jstoddard

Happy Trails . . .

Wow, you have been busy, I was wondering where you disappeared to. Glad to hear things are going well between you and Pamela, and that she is helping you through this. Good luck on the upcoming race!

April 30th... excellent timing. If I can work the finances right I've been toying with doing an eastern Mojave trip in early May (on the Arizona side of the river, most likely). You and Pamela are both welcome to join.

Larry always has to bring everything back around to FOOD! Speaking of food, I've been so hungry all the time on this workout program that I realized this: If Larry ever took up triathlon training, there would be an instant world hunger problem!

Thanks for your well wishes and support everyone. Chazz, I'll think about that trip - it will take some planning during a time when I was hoping to do NOTHING. But I'll let you know if I can make it.

Keep gettin' dirty, y'all.
